It feels like the accompaniment for the soundtrack stood out more in the WAV and FLAC version
Knowing how to do it and not knowing how to do it is the same thing. Knowing how to do it well is the difference

Ah, good ear! I always find that the individual instruments are much easier to distinguish in uncompressed music where as with MP3 (and other similar file types) the various layers of a song can sometimes get a bit muddled. Only problem with uncompressed music is that it often averages anywhere from around 3-5 MB's a second, resulting in huuuuge file sizes by comparison. This means that a 2 hour soundtrack could very easily end up being over 25 GB's of uncompressed music*.

This is why nearly all games (including ours) have to settle with doing a bit of light compression to keep the game's total file size reasonable. Even then, the current build is still heavily weighted towards music at the moment because pixel tile sheets and the game code itself is currently only around 20 MB's (and this is without optimization or file cleaning done). So basically this means that just two or three soundtrack pieces nearly equals the same size as the entire current build. Though, to be fair, I haven't gone through and done much compression optimization on the music yet, so this ratio will hopefully improve somewhat between now and a proper release.

Anyway, sorry for hijacking this thread with a tangent about file sizes.

    * This is actually my only concern when it comes to offering an uncompressed version of the soundtrack: the bandwidth it'll require! Hopefully that's something Steam can help with as I suppose it's extremely common to offer soundtracks alongside Steam games nowadays. Something for me to properly research at some point.

Love the sound with the new samples! I feel like there is a noticeable difference.
