We thought we'd should share a bit of background to the land of Quill. These are the early thoughts and, when we get a 'propa riter' in, they can make it sound much better. This should give you a little insight into why Quill is like it is. :-)
The History of QuillThe land of Quill was borne from a world where science and ecological meddling, war and natural disaster were rife.
Men meddled with the laws of nature and brought about their own destruction and the end of days with their insatiable hunger for knowledge.
Over many, many years the survivors, now huddled into small communities, became fearful of the wrath of nature and sought to appease it at every opportunity.
Ancient pagan ways became the norm. The rituals and worship attracted beings from other realms, and long forgotten doorways were opened once again.
Lost stories and fairy tales thrived off the Fae magic now seeping into the world and they took form.
The forests the world grew and swallowed up nearly all traces of those past civilisations and things crept through the opened doorways to inhabit this new land.
Old Gods peered in and the people, now in dreadful fright at what was happening, made bargains with these powerful spirits of nature.
Mankind would stay in their enclaves and the dark creatures would stay in the forests and caves.
Humans would not kill each other or create weapons of mass destruction. They would not breed beyond their means and spread outside their havens. A path was made between each enclave, and anyone who strayed from it would be fair game to the forces that lived in the shadowy forests and deep caves.
They would revere the Gods of nature and live in harmony with those peering in from beyond.
Over time, this became the normal way of life. Man had reverted to a simple life. The Fae, nature creatures from other realms, began to visit the humans, through curiosity.
The people made them gifts and the Fae loved the craftmanship and quirky ways and delicious foods of man.
In order to better serve the influx of Fae visitors, men started to desire better materials and more quality ingredients and thus ventured out into the forests.
Those who did not fall to the creatures, returned with goods that brought them fame and riches.
After many years, the finest craftsmen and best merchants, now eager for a life of luxury, built the city of Opal and contained their decadence within its walls.
Those who aspired to join them built their businesses and vied to become famous enough to be permitted entry to Opal.
The forests of the world were given names that graded them for the amount of danger within and the Fae Gods permitted small numbers to hunt within their boundaries in return for offerings.
And so, this is life in Quill. Many enjoy the happiness of a simple life, and others crave the trappings of riches and the glory of fame. Man and Fae co-exist in peace, each dependent on the other.
